Compression you can feel in your fingertips

Pure compression. No compromises.

COM1 utilizes optical technology to create organic compression for guitar players.

The Sustain control lets you determine the amount of compression – easily and on the fly. Rather than smashing your guitar tone to bits, COM1 gives you better control regardless of whether the situation calls for that squashy sound of clean Hendrix or tight Niles Rodgers funk.

COM1 is not designed to completely remove your attack, but rather it enhances your guitar signal to make it work perfectly in the larger context of a band mix.

Further, COM1 is housed in a rugged steel chassis that is built to withstand the challenges of extensive daily use and continuous touring. We have carefully selected all components to ensure superior sonic qualities, minimal noise and reliable use for years and years.

The COM1 features our unique RFI protection. All ¼” jack connectors are gold-plated, and all internal wiring utilizes high-quality, shielded audio cable with minimum DC resistance and capacity.

When switched OFF (bypassed), the COM1 acts as a unity gain line driver, capable of driving even very long cables without tonal loss or unwanted coloration.

Alberto Barrero (Composer, Video Maker, Studio & Live guitarist)

“A high-end, ultra-dynamic, studio-quality compressor at your fingertips… And free from noise.

“I was searching for a compressor that was easy to control – did not change or color my basic sound – and it should be very quiet. The result? COM1!”

How we record

Signal chain: Guitar -> Caveman stomp -> Caveman X2/X3 Amp -> Caveman 412 cab -> Mics -> DAW

We use two microphones in front of the cabinet – a Shure SM57 and a Royer R-121.
The microphone signals are sent to the Caveman Audio Dual Mic Preamp and the outputs then run straight into ProTools.

The sound you hear has NOT been processed in any way – no additional compression or EQ.
What you hear is simply the raw recorded signal. We add a little reverb and occasionally a bit of stereo delay – but that’s it!

The bass is recorded with a PJ bass guitar straight into the Caveman Audio BAS1 preamp – and from there directly into ProTools.

All Acoustic Guitars are recorded with a Martin D28, passing the signal from the onboard piezo pickup straight into the Caveman Audio ACC1 preamp and then directly into ProTools.
The drums are Superior Drummer 3 grooves.
