CONTROLS
The GAIN potentiometer controls how hard you drive the preamp.
Higher gain will push the preamp more and add a touch of natural analogue compression.
The LEVEL potentiometer controls the overall output of the preamp.
REAR CONNECTIONS
1/4″ TS mono jack – this is the instrument input.
Gold-plated Neutrik XLR output.
The D.I. output is transformer balanced to avoid any hum/noise issues, and eliminates the need for an external D.I./Line Driver.
This output is designed for loads of 2Kohm or higher, making it perfect for mixing consoles / DAW.
This is a Line Level output – NOT mic. level – so make sure that the input gain on your mixing desk / DAW is set to its minimum. If a Line Channel is available, you should use that.
1/4″ TS mono jacks. The loop is placed after the input buffer, but before the preamp.
This is the perfect spot for connecting your stomp boxes.
Connect the input of your first stomp box to the LOOP SEND jack – and the output from your last stomp box to the LOOP RETURN jack.
AMP OUT:
1/4″ TRS stereo jack.
The AMP OUT is transformer balanced to avoid any hum/noise issues when connecting an external amplifier.
TUNER OUT:
1/4″ TS mono jack.
The Tuner Out is always active. It is placed right after the Input Buffer inside the BP1, to ensure best performance.
Set for minimum noise.
12VDC @ 400mA – center negative

“The BP1 and BP1 Compact are superb bass guitar preamps: they deliver slightly different audio performances but both are of the highest quality and suitable for live and/or studio. (…) Powered up, both were essentially silent.
Playing bass through the BP1 for the first time was a revelation, the pedal delivering a crisp, clear definition to every note, most notably in the bass and low midrange, without ever sounding harsh.
The Compact delivered the same clear definition and gain‑driven saturation.
The Caveman Audio BP1 and BP1 Compact are both superb bass preamps that deliver sonic performances which completely justify their price.”

Q: Which power supply would you recommend for the BP1 Compact ?
A: We highly recommend the Cioks power supplies, if you need multiple DC outlets.
If you only need a single supply, we recommend the TC PowerPlug 12.
Q: Can I use a 9VDC or 18VDC supply ?
A: NO – the BP1 Compact requires a 12VDC supply !!!
Q: Can I use my 12VDC @ 1000mA power supply with the BP1 Compact ?
A: Yes you can. The BP1 Compact requires a minimum of 400mA – so everything higher than 400mA is fine.
Voltage (VDC) should always be precisely what the unit requires.
Current (mA) should be the same or higher as required by the unit.
The unit will only draw the amount of current it requires.
Q: Should I place my stomp boxes before or after the BP1 Compact ?
A: You should place your stomp boxes in the fx loop (send/return) of the BP1 Compact.
The fx loop is placed after the input buffer, but before the preamp. Check the Signal Path tab.
